About GIF Enhancement
What can I fix with this tool?
The most common GIF problems are easy fixes: dark scenes, washed-out colors, oversharpened or noisy footage, and footage that plays too fast or too slow. Brightness and Contrast solve exposure issues. Saturation and Hue fix colors. Sharpness adds back lost detail (within reason - if you need a true upscale, use the GIF Upscaler for AI-style enlargement). Denoise smooths out the grainy junk often found in screen-recorded or compressed-then-recompressed GIFs.
Will enhancement increase my GIF file size?
Sometimes. Boosting contrast and saturation can introduce more color variation, which is harder for the GIF format to compress. After enhancing, run your file through our Compress GIF tool to bring the size back down - the visual quality gains usually survive a smart compression pass.
Should I reduce colors or keep them all?
Keep all colors for photographic GIFs, illustrations with smooth gradients, or any GIF where banding would be obvious. Reduce to 64 or 128 colors for screen recordings, logos and graphic UI captures - you will not see the difference but the file will compress much better.
What does normalize and auto-levels do?
Both reach into the darkest and brightest pixels in your GIF and stretch them to use the full available range. Auto-levels does this per channel (red, green, blue separately) which can also fix slight color casts. Normalize is gentler and just adjusts overall brightness range. Try both - on most poorly-exposed GIFs at least one will look great.
